Tour of Homes
At the end of July the house went on the Tour of Homes, this was very successful and showed off the finished house and all of the hard work that students put in over the year. Stay tuned for next year’s house and design!
July 17th – 24th
Two former students helped put together the final finishing touches on the house. These items included landscaping, interior and exterior work. With these completed the house was ready for its first showing at the Tour of Homes.
We had an open house for the students, faculty, and other members of the community. They were able to be the first to see the progress of the house and see all of the hard work that the students have put in.
With the term coming to a close students worked hard on finishing up the exterior of the house. It was especially important to get the plants in the ground before the hot days of summer set in. A concrete workshop also gave students the chance to create the counter-tops for the kitchen.
The concrete was poured in the garage and the two stoops. Plants were delivered and the interior continued to be finished including plinths for the casework and the closet hardware installed.
Students started to dig the post holes for the side yard screen and the form-work was placed in preparation for the concrete to be poured.
Students worked on site as well as off site in the OregonBILDS woodshop and finished creating the entertainment center to be ready to be placed into the house.
The excavator was on site to create the rain garden and the ditch for the plumbing. Cabinets were brought to site and students started to install the kitchen base cabinets which included squaring the cabinets and precise measurements.
The site was excavated for plumbing and the curb was cut for the driveway. Cabinets were delivered and will be installed in the following weeks.
Students worked both indoors and outdoors. Doors were hung and trim was put up on the interior. Students then worked on the final roofing of the garage and porch. The siding has been completed and the gable vents were installed. In the shop the cabinets were assembled and will be soon taken to the site.
Students have finished painting the interior and with the sunshine are working on the exterior siding. Gable vents and the cedar siding details are going up. Others are working on case work and landscaping.
New students arrived and are starting the term by priming and painting the interior of the house.
